As hatchlings, I start them on f/t rat pups, or live adult mice if they need something a little more lively. Then work them up to weaned rats and on to small rats. All of my 2010 hatchlings are on small (60-100 grams) rats now. I feed them when they're hungry. Usually it's around every 4 days. If their previous meal was small I'll give them another in 2-3 days. If it was a good sized meal, 4 or 5 days. Eventually they'll drop to a once a week schedule...but when they're young I feed them when they want as they will never grow this fast again...I kept 4 babies from my own clutches this year and they are 600-1000 grams. Babies that I picked up from other breeders this year are probably closer to 400-600 grams. Breeders who are planning to sell their babies definitely seem to use a much more conservative feeding schedule. I see a lot of babies for sale at shows that are pitiful looking...I know a lot of breeders "maintenance feed" them but some I guarantee have never eaten...yet are up for sale...I guess some folks just can't sell 'em off fast enough... I'd be embarrased to sell a snake like that, but that's just me...
