Wiring cooling fan to thermostat?
Hey all,
I am working on my new wine cooler incubator and am working on installing the fan. The fan I will be using is a RadioShack 273-238 (4" cooling fan). The motor is 12V DC, 0.32A, and 3.84W. What all will I need to wire this to my Helix DBS1000?
Thank you!

Re: Wiring cooling fan to thermostat?
Just plug it into a socket and let it run 24/7. I dont think they will work hooked up to a Proportional t-sat anyway.
I Use a fan from Helix to cycle the air 24/7 and a Johnson Control T-Stat. Good luck.

Re: Wiring cooling fan to thermostat?
Thanks.
Do you know if this 120VAC fan will work in an incubator? I have heard they get too hot? Any thoughts?

Please please please make sure you do NOT plug your 24v DC fan in a socket and let it run. You will not have a happy fan.
I have a 120v fan hooked up in my Red Bull incubator and I did have problems with it heating the incubator up, I eneded up have to run its power through a dimmer switch in order to cut down on its heat generation. I'd stick with the 12V if you can.

One more thing, if you are any good at wiring I'm pretty sure if you got something like this:http://cgi.ebay.com/POWER-SUPPLIES-1...item45f7fb66ee you could wire the fan into that adapter and plug it in. I can't get a good look at the cut end in the picture but as long as it has separate leads in there it should be easy to wire to your fan.
*edit* I looked at a zoomed in picture and yes it does look like it has 2 seperate leads and should be easy to wire to a fan. I just ordered one so I can swap out my 120v AC fan for a 12v DC one.

Re: Wiring cooling fan to thermostat?
I have that exact same power supply from an old cell phone. I'll check to make sure that matches the specs on the fan.
Thanks!

voltage doesn't cause heat, wattage does.
