    Three questions in one

I recently purchased a ap rack that hold 10 (12qt) tubs and has back heat instead of belly heat. I love this rack but here is the dilemma my house is at about 70 71 degrees and when i went to see what one of the tubs temp out at it was only 82 degrees in the back and pretty chilly still in the front of the tub. I have my ranco set at 98 and i dont know what to do to get the heat up do i up the ranco to 100 or higher... I also put some of that stuff over the window to keep out the cold it seems like it works but i have tryed to insulate this room as best i can I am in a apt so the heat stays in relatively good.

Also in this ap rack since its a all black rack do the bp need a hide in there or will they be fine with out one.

next on bhb he uses a substrate almost looks like mulch what is he using or do you guys recommend newspaper i dont like newspaper because i feel that is partially the reason im losing heat and the mulch substrate would be able to keep in some heat. ADVICE?????

sorry for so many questions let me know

    Re: Three questions in one

    1. Get a space heater to warm up the room and keep the door closed. If you do this I recommend getting a humidifier as well because the heater sucks all the moisture out of the air.

    2. Some people say you don't need a hide in a rack system. I however still use hides.

    3. He is most likely using aspen bedding, a lot of people on here use it I however don't because it can get in the snakes mouth and they don't really like it too much when you try to remove it. I use paper towel, it’s a bit expensive but it's what I like the best. The cheap tri-fold bathroom paper towel fits perfectly in a 12 qt tub.

Good luck and enjoy your new rack.

Had similar Problem with my RBI at beginning of the winter... I moved my rack closer to heater.. During coldest days (when my supper forget to heat up apartments enough I crank my herpstat to 107... i use sani-chips for substrate 1-1.5 inch layer) and control my temps 2 times a day with internal accurite in every tub and temp gun... coldest i have hot spot was 86.... cold side (front of the tube) 74.... ( usually have hot side between 89-91 and cold 81-79/78).

Sometimes when my supper really crank a heat i use spray bottle to raise humidity.. but doing it mostly when i see my snake is going to shed...

In small collection it works..... in bigger keeping steady temp in designated ''snake room'' is a must.
