Iv been told many times its bad to have temperatures change in your tank. For instance iv been told it bad to have my heat lamp on during the day and then turn it off at night because it can cause sickness even though i have an UTH on all the time keeping the right belly temp in half the tank. If this is true how do they survive in the wild where temperature is so unpredictable?

You first have to look at where they live mostly underground in termite mounds and old rodent dens. Because it is underground the temps are pretty stable 99.995% of the time. So they are living in a pretty stable (temp and humidity wise) area..think of it like a well built and insulated basement.
