Vertical pupils = nocturnal, circular pupils = diurnal. It's hard to see in most bp's, but they do have vertical pupils. To my knowledge there is no way to differentiate between venomous and non venomous snakes by their eyes, but I could be mistaken.

Burms and retics are more than a "little" bigger than a ball python lol. I highly recommend boas for a beginner large snake (although you still must be financially prepared to accommodate and feed a large snake throughout its life, as well as be comfortable handling). Females typically max out around 9ft, males a bit smaller. I got this girl when she was six months old from Dave Colling (rainbows-r-us-reptiles.com). He's a great guy, very helpful, and has some outstanding animals. Zalma is usually a sweetheart (I have been bit several times, though, as has my brother, but that is pretty common in hatchlings, and is something they grow out of), is/has always been in excellent health, and has the best feeding response out of all my snakes. I paid $50 for her, but that was a long time ago and she would probably be more now, as she is starting to develop some nice colors and size.
