"Ball" Pythons
I know they are called Ball Pythons because they ball up.
However my 3 year old male Bp never balls up, even when he is scared.
He goes in his hide but I don't count that as balling up b/c most of everysnake curls up in a hide.
Why do some balls never ball up while others do it all the time?
Opinions?

Re: "Ball" Pythons
Its a behavior they can grow out of. They ball if they feel they're threatened.

My girl who doesn't fall into the growing out of balling up stage rarely if ever balls up, she is a very calm, confident snake very few things bother her, she has never hissed and only ever struck at anything but a mouse
I think just like any other animal they have different temperaments and some are just not timid enough to feel the need to ball up.

My Idea, You are an animal person, and your snake picks up on your confidence, and is not afraid but trusts you! Way cute! My bp does occassionaly ball up, but most of the time, hes trying to go down my shirt! lol

Some are just more stable, I guess you could say. Like people, some panic for the smallest reason and some are always calm and cool. Mine never balls up either, it's a good thing, trust me!

Re: "Ball" Pythons
I only have one that somewhat balls up, but only if you coax her to (ball her up yourself). I'm looking forward to babies cause they'll ball up. I think it's cute.

They ball up as a defense mechanism/feeling threatened.
That's why you'll see new born ball pythons in a ball when they are out of the egg... They're in a whole new world and are scared sh**less

Yea sometimes I wish my bp would ball up because it is cute. I can't even roll him up into a ball. A second later he is all over the place.
When my bp feels threatened he just hides haha Its sorta funny.
I'm curious as to how much does a balls upbringing influence their temperament and how much of it is that they were just born with that temperament in the first place.
