Im gonna get a digital thermometer for the ambient air temp (does anyone have recommendations for that cause the dial gauges from pet co SUCk)

Edit: I missed Your digital temp Question.. Use Accu-Rite.... You have 2 readings one when thermometer is and second on Probe (you can Put thermometer on Your cold side and probe on hot )

i too have the PE-1 from tempgun.com...works for me & it's inexpensive & has a seperate optional metal case that contains with an extra battery and a cord for something.

The one you have listed is as accurate as most low priced IR guns +/- 1ºC or +/- 1.8ºF This is typical to most on the market that are under 200$ Just keep that in mind when setting your temps!

if the gun reads 94º the real temp could be between 92.2-95.8. The PE1 I think is the same and the PE2 is a touch better.

Most digital thermometers are about the same figure 2 degrees up or down for accuracy. Unless you spend some cash and get a good digital one. However in my experience (I use very good ones at work as I need at the most .3ºF accuracy) LC ones are often very good I use a LC design one as a control to check the cheap digital ones (cheap being less than 100$)

I'm using a Ryobi temp gun that I found at Home Depot for $30. I've checked it against my Acurites in tank and my house thermostat. Seems to be right on. I'm sure a $200 gun would be more reliable, but I just use mine as a double check and it's fine for that. It was an inexpensive option I didn't have to wait to have shipped.
