    Traveling and leavign your pets....

As much as I love to travel and visit family I absolutely HATE leaving my animals. There is just so much to worry about...whether the macaws will behave themselves and stay in their cage ( I have escape artists!), what if there's a fire, what if we lose power and the heat goes out...what if what if what if.... We have 18 exotics in the house and I swear I worry about them more than I do my kid sometimes...LOL

My family and I are leaving tonight to drive downstate for a two day trip and I am...well, trippin' just like I always do when we are leaving all of our babies. I just wanna load them all up and cart them along. Bet our families would LOVE that!

Even though my neighbors have a key and they'll be checking on everyone a couple of times a day and my best friend is coming over each morning to feed and water I still feel utterly guilty and worrisome...

    Anyone else have this problem?

We have all our animals set up to be able to take care of themselfs for atleast a week without anyone checking. So with someone checking on them and they miss something I know they are okay. We only have reptiles and rats/mice so it's easy for us.
Since you are only going to be gone for a couple days and I'm sure you have everything set up easy for your friends to take care of them don't worry. They will be fine and you'll be back before you know it.
Merry Christmas and enjoy your tirp!!!!

Of course our pets were all okay. I'm just a worry wart and I miss them like crazy when we leave, even if it is just for a short time. The hubby and I have talked about buying and RV and custom outfitting it so we can travel with some of them. LOL

We had a great trip and a wonderful time visiting with our families. Hope you and yours had a Merry Christmas too

Oh man I hear you. I get so nervous even leaving just overnight! When I leave for more than a few days I have someone check in on the critters every other day. My mom lives about an hour from me and she came up to check on everyone last year when I went on vacation. Before that trip she had never ever touched one of my snakes. She was deathly afraid of snakes before I got them, even had nightmares about them all the time!!! On that trip though she checked on them and somehow my biggest female tipped her water and soaked her tub, my mom actually took her out and cleaned/replaced everything, even bought her a new water bowl!!! I was so proud But yes, I'm so nervous, especially with the snakes because people don't know anything about them and one little thing changed/moved/adjusted, and they are all dead. I worry about the kitties just as much though, they are my babies!

All the time!!! I have to pre plan someone to come in and I have to show them what to do with the reptiles. The snakes for the most part are fine for a week ....but the dogs and lizards need someone daily and not just for food and water. They have to have their dose of loving...lol

Last summer I left on vacation for 4 weeks....my hubby stayed behind and took care of the animals. I have to say....yes I missed the hubby but not having my reptiles for a month just about killed me.

    I don't.

Then again, I've got full trust in whoever is watching my animals, and I don't keep anything that can go without interaction for a minimum of 3 days.

I only have snakes at my house. So I don't worry if I have to leave for 2 or 3 days at a time. Even longer sometimes. I just make sure they have full water dishes before I leave and then make sure that the UTH's are set properly and that the house temperature doesn't drop below 76. They've done fine the last couple of times I've left and I'm never worried.
