    Temp question I need explained.

The sticky from JFreels on tank set up is GREAT and I followed it to a T. However, I have a question.

I mounted the probe above the heat pad like stated, ran the wire across the tank as such. But I noticed that the temp on the heat pad side reads 110 degrees, yet the temp above the heat pad and the reptibark is at 90 degrees. Bear in mind it is the small size pad ( approx 4x5 inches). The cool side of the tank reads 80 degrees. Middle of the tank is 85 degrees ( measured with a stick on thermometer which I know is not the most accurate).

So my question is, even though the temp on the probe reads 110, should I leave it there seeing as the temp right above the reptibark in the same spot is 90? Her hide is approx 3 inches from that area, almost mid tank.

And the room she is in is roughly 68-72 degrees at any given time. The heat pad is NOT enough to warm the whole tank, so I am using an additional light on top of the foil to maintain the temps.

Oh and humidity is 60-62% .

Re: Temp question I need explained.

u need to turn down the UTH to around 95. the temps u have are too high and if ur snake burrows it could get burnt. only use a thin layer of substrate so the top of the substrate can still be warm enough, and if not they can burrow into it

Ok. The substrate is approx 1/2 inch deep. Should it be less?

Also you state the TEMPS are to high. You mean just the temp above the UTH right? The others I thought were ideal.

I think only the UTH needs to be turned down. Everything else seems fine.

yes thats what he was saying, if the others go out of range then you need to find another way of raising them.

Thanks everyone! Boy I would be so lost without this site. As many questions I have asked, I should just get my own sticky so I don't have to make new post. I do use the search feature, but no post with this kind of question was listed.

The only dumb question is the one not asked.

It took me a little while of reading and research before I figured this same thing out, not to mention the helpful people like you who asked it for me so I didn't feel stupid.

i did a lot of reading when i got my first ball. thats all i would do after work and on weekends, sit down with a tall cold one and read all night. most of the time there is already a thread on something that u need to know with all the answers right in it. so thats what i did. but if u cant find something just ask and we will be happy to offer anything we can
