    Question just wondering....

so Im thinking about getting a male ball python. Leaning more towards a pastel or spider. I currently have a nornmal female and would one day consider breeding them together. What one do you think I should get and why? also what would most of the offspring be if I bred her with the pastel? The spider?

If you bred her to a pastel you should get some pastels and some normals. If the spider some spiders some normals.

I see this question asked all the time. The fact is that it's a matter of preference. Which morph do you like better and why? Some people like spiders, some like pastels, most people like both. Spiders have "the wobble" and pastels "brown out". Make the choice based upon your opinion of each morph.

Co-Doms and Doms are 50/50 when bred to a normal (50% morph/50% normal). This ratio is based per egg though (not 50/50 per clutch). So with the luck gods on your side you could technically hatch all morphs... or at the same time... all normals. But it's 50/50 per egg whether it be normal or morph.

Get a super pastel. All pastels and no normals.

I am in the same spot. problem is, couldnt the "normal" (unknown parents) female be harboring something in her dna that would give you a surprise egg?

I am asking because one of our females is a normal but has a pastel dorsal stripe.

Sure they could. We usually refer to those guys as "dinkers".

For example, I got a normal from Tim Bailey who could possibly have some hidden morph genes in her (she was from a mystery daddy contest). But, unless you prove her out through breeding, she'll always be normal. She's an awesome looking normal though!

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!"

Both males would have clutches that were 50/50 (half morph half normal, theoretically).

I would go for the pastel because of the potential in the future. Pastels are codominate so they have a super form-super pastel. Spiders are dominate and do not have a super form. Therefore, the pastel babies you got would be worth breeding to a pastel or a spider, the spider babies would only be worth breeding to pastels. So in the future you could get a female spider and work on bumblebees and super pastels (with your hold back pastel girls). Or you could get a male spider and work on bumblebees the long way-breeding the pastel females when they are old enough.

    Just my two cents
