Welcome
That is where I went first ( I just got my baby on friday)
The other members will I am sure give you more advice than I can but I can say from experiance that the dial thermometers and hydrometers suck.. go to a hardware store and get the digital one with a probe that reads indoor and outdoor temps put the probe on the hot spot and the unit on the cool side.
Look around on here and I am sure you can find what you are curious about and a ton of info that you didnt even know you didnt know..
The people on here are all super nice and helpful so just ask and they will help.

Alright what i am going to tell you might not be what you want to hear but its for the best.
I would scrap the half log hide and the rocks you have, unless you want to keep the rocks in there for visual means, which is perfectly fine. I would go ahead and get yourself to the closest dollar store and pick up some cheap cereal bowls. They are about 5-6 inches across in diameter and are perfect for your size snake. I remember getting 2 for a dollar, so get 2-4 if you can .
Ditch the dial thermometer and hygrometer and get yourself an Accurite brand thermometer from Wal Mart. They have one that is a square unit that is $8 and they have one with an external probe for $12.00. Either of these would be better than what you have now, but the one with the external probe is preferred.
The reptile carpet is fine, but you might want to have like 2 or 3 extra pieces so you can easily swap them out.
Also there is a high possibility he avoids the half log hide because it is simply too hot. A UTH and an overheat lamp equals oven to me. I would get a digital thermometer and see exactly how hot it is in there, i bet probably over 100 degrees.
If you can make a trip to lowes or Home Depot, get a lamp dimmer switch for $8-10 and hook the UTH up to that for control.
Any other questions, your in the right place!!

The probe end.. should go under the hide on the hot side. the actual unit should bee on your cool side which will equal the indoor temp being your cool side and the outdoor temp being your hot spot.

Some minor adjustments to the enclosure and you should be alright. I believe they have all been said. You need another hide, swap to a digital thermometer/ hygrometer, ditch the rocks or lay them down you bp could knock them down and injure itself. I would also up you feed that bp is plenty big enough for a small rat or a few mice on a 7 or 10 day feeding schedule. If you have a scale feed it mice/rats that total 10%-15% of the snakes weight or the rat should be about the same girth as the snake at it widest point.
