Ok I didn't realize that, we only had it in there for 3-4 days so that likely wasn't enough time. Out of curiosity, are there any particular type of hides that are safer or more secure than others? Or is it mostly just whatever the animal will use and whatever style the owner likes?

The thing I keep in mind most about hides is that they like them really tight. They like to be hugged on all sides, and even from above. Anything shallow and snug with a smallish opening is perfect...from a lightweight plastic planter bottom, to a heavy ceramic "cave" from the pet store. The lighter ones are kind of cool because the snake will often move them around to wherever they want them most. Maybe they like playing "tortoise".

That has got to be one of the cutest things I could ever see! Is there anything wrong with getting slightly larger hides to compensate for growth? The one we got for her when we first got her is a little big for her, not giant but she can easily fit into it with some room to spare.

You can get those little plastic flower pot bottoms from Walmart or the hardware store for like a half-dollar each. Very cheap...easy to cut a little cave opening in the side. (Some like to drill a hole in the top) You could put several of those scattered about the bottom of the enclosure...and leave the bigger one in there as well. Give it a few weeks and see what the snake does. Consider it a fun little experiment.

Hides are a funny thing, clear and translucent I personally would not recommend Ball pythons don't have the best vision but they are not blind either. I have used a wide range of things with mine. I like plant saucers upside down with a door cut in the side or top... but I have used flower pots, plastic bowls purchased rock like hides and just plastic ones. slab style (a rock with a bit of wood glued on it to the floor making a wedge shaped thing. Almost anything will do just give them time to settle offer 2 or more add cover with plants and stuff and they will settle in just fine.

Make sure it can't fall over and hurt/trap the snake and doesn't have any really sharp bits and let it be for a bit.

I had used big hides for my little snakes before. I would put a bunch of tightly crumpled newspapers inside the hide to make it feel more snug. I took out the newspapers a bit at a time as the snake grew.
