k im thinking of getting olive python but im new to them. any warning or any specific behavior i need to watch out for?
While I do not keep olive pythons, I have a very close friend who breeds them, and I have spent some time handling and caring for them when he goes on vacation. I will preface with this - I am not a large constrictor person. Large constrictors in general aren't my cup of tea, so take any advice or observations I have a with a grain of salt.
As far as warnings go, I would caution that olives can grow to over 13 feet long and therefore the requisite warnings regarding safe handling and large, secure caging apply.
I don't know what your specific experience is with snakes (large snakes in particular), but I would caution that their temperment can vary.
I've handled some very docile 13 foot olives and a few nasty big olives, so the behavior I would be most concerned about is yours and if you are up to the task - both financially and mentally - required to care for a large constrictor.
