Beginner Desert-Dwelling T's for my Dad!
So I got my dad into tarantulas!
Anyways, he really wants to get one, but his heart is in the desert so he would really like to be able to make a naturalistic desert setup for his T when it's full-grown. I suggested a G. Rosea or an Aphonopelma of some sort (more than likely Moderatum or Bicoloratum) because they're fairly easy in the care department and they're desert dwellers. Are there any others that you would suggest? It would be a look-but-don't-touch pet for the most part, but something docile would always be best in the off chance that we need to handle it for maintenance, etc.
Thanks!

What kind of naturalistic desert setup are you guys thinking of making?
Moderatum or Bicoloratum are both beauties!!! Bicoloratum are expensive and hard to come across and Modertum are said to be a bit on the grumpy side of the Alphonopelma's. That info really means nothing - lol. Just rambling

I think he wants to do some kind of dryscaping. He's really set on sand, which I told him has to be VERY coarse, but he really wants it lol.... I'm trying to get him to want potting soil. He likes the stuff with lots of pebbles and sand, etc, so I was looking for some more deep desert stuff if that makes sense.
And when he doesn't want it anymore it becomes mine, so I don't have much of a problem with it being expensive, not my pay cheque LOL.

Tell him also that sand will stick to them and it does not hold a burrow at all

Some people just want to do things the way they want to All you can do in that circumstance is support him, hope the tarantula thrives and he is happy with his choices

I hope you and your dad can find what he's looking for!
P.S. I think I've seen you on the T forum lol!
Originally I told him to look into brachy's but they aren't desert enough for him lol. I'm a brachy lover, but I don't think he wants one, and it's going to be his above all else.
And that's quite possible! I haven't been very active on there lol... gotta start going on there more! Add me on the t forum if you find me again!
