Rocket trip to West Texas

Over the weekend a group of friends and I shot out to West Texas. We were only there two days but found seven snakes. The first night we found
1.3 C. lepidus lepidus
1.0 C. atrox

Second night was slower. Didnt find any snakes in the rocks only on the road. We found 1.0 C. molossus and one Trans Pecos Ratsnake. Only photographed the lepidus and atrox.

Those have to be the most beautiful rattle snakes I've ever seen! Great pics!

PS. How did you sex them?

I put the snake in a restraint tube and then probe it. Here are a couple more shots of the same species.






I actually just had a litter of five Edwards county Mottlred Rock Rattlesnakes, but no pics yet. First the trouble of getting them to eat.

I will soon get some pics up of the babies for you guys. I have got one of the five to eat, but still working on the other four. I have not taken pics because I dont want to disturb them much, hoping they will eat the less I disturb them. I will get some photos of the babies this week and post them. Female 2 is the mother although the babies lool nothing like her. Its hard to believe she is gravid with five babies and less then a month form dropping in the above photo. I thought for sure female 1 was gravid, but Female 2 was much thinner.
