Question What morphs can I make with a....

    Hey guys,

So I was looking online AGAIN (lol) at the many beautiful morphs out there and I was thinking forward to when my Male Pastel is ready to breed...

    so my question is..

What morphs can I produce using my Male Pastel?
I know there are many many out there but what are the best combos for shock and aww so to speak. I love so many morphs but I know it takes lots of work to beer up to those eye-poppers but what combos can I put together to get something amazing?

sorry I'm new to the morph world and breeding combos and it's hard to find anything online..

    thanks

I think the answers to your questions come with a little more patience and diligence. There IS a big learning curve when it comes to ball python morphs...and it grows every year as more new morphs come onto the scene, and the massive variety of combos increases every breeding season.

I know if I suddenly wanted to get into cornsnakes...which are years and years ahead of ball pythons in the morph-combo department....I would not dream of expecting anyone to be able to tell me "What's the most exciting morphs out there?" I would go to breeder websites...I would buy any recently published books...I would lurk on active forums and simply absorb as much information as possible about all the different lines of morphs and their combos. I would identify the ones that excited me most and focus on them. I wouldn't be afraid to ask questions...but they would be specific questions for the point of clarifying some confusing fact....not looking for someone to type out a dissertation on cornsnake morphs.

There are so many different variables to consider....some people like the darker morphs, and some ligher...some like busy patterns...and some reduced...and some prefer no pattern at all. No one can tell you what's "amazing" to you!

Be patient! Enjoy the adventure of discovering out your OWN amazing favorites and then making plans to achieve them for yourself someday. It's an awesome journey!!

Yea I'm right there with you !
I want to find something eye-popping but I don't want to get crazy on my 1st shot and end up with nothing "special" in my clutch.. It's a heartbreaker when that happens, I have seen many people let down.

    GOOD LUCK !!

I have many loves in the morph world..
I just really want to find a neat "learners" combo... All the ones I like are crazy so I know I need to start simple, just not sure where to start...

Just do some poking around, look at pictures, find out what you want to work up to. Asking for the "best" combos with morphs will only get you responses of "Whatever you like best." Pastels are especially variable and used in a TON of different combos, so just find something you like. The picture forum here on BP.net is awesome, but there's also that world of ball pythons morph gallery, NERD, and almost all breeders online have a collection gallery where you can see all sorts of snakes.

There's no real straightforward answer to what you're asking. There's not really "harder" morphs, just things like recessive genes that take a little longer if you don't have a visual. Stick with the Dominant/codom morphs and you should be good

one thing to consider is that it takes a lot longer to get a female to breeding size than a male. so when your male is at breeding size, you're going to buy a female hatchling and wait a few more years or spend at least 3 times as much for a breeding female compare to a hatchling. you could get normal females at breeding size without breaking the bank and get a 50/50 chance of pastels or normals.

Well if you don't want to be "let down" then you better buy a morph where it's impossible to miss the odds. Of course you could get no eggs, or a dead female, or a sick female, or slugs, or full term dead in the egg, or eggs go bad half way through the incubation.

HMMMMM...on second thought maybe you better stick with something else if you don't want to be "let down" because it comes with the game.

I agree with starting out with a female. It will take some time to get her to breeding weight. Also, look at your male pastel and look at other pics of pastels out there to see how he stacks up. If he's a real looker, you can get a nice female and have nice babies. If you look around and think he may not be exactly what you want to breed to a normal or fire, or mojave, etc., you can go get a real pretty female pastel and then produce some great pastel and super pastel offspring.

The nice thing about pastels is that they are a co-dominant gene and can produce some cool morphs. Some of my favorite pastel morphs are: fireflies - pastel x fire, super pastels - pastel x pastel, pastel x enchi, and pastel x woma. I have a fire female and would like to eventualy breed her to a super pastel for superflies

Good luck and have fun reading! As the folks above have said, there is a LOT to learn, but BP.net is a great place to dig in!

a super pastel to a fire won't produce any superflies. you need the pastel gene in both the breeding male and female to have a chance at super pastels. if you get a super pastel for your female fire. then all the offsprings will have the pastel gene and half the clutch has a 50/50 chance at being fireflies. you will not produce any normals or fires. hope this helps, don
