    IJ Temp Question

Ive had my IJ for a month or so and the 50w bulb i was using wasnt doing the job I dont think. My hot side temps were occasionally hitting 88 but usually below 85 and my cool side 73-76. I went with a 75w and its now at 104-106 on a basking limb and cool side never drops below77. IVe done some looking around and ive hit a few research sites that say thats fine.

Before the change he was always on the cold side hiding. Now that i put the new light in he is on the hot side under some leaves sucking up the rays. But if its too hot ill bump it down a few notches with either a thermostat or smaller wattage.

    Thanks

    Re: IJ Temp Question

thats pretty hot on the hot the side you can get a lamp that has a dimmer on it that works out pretty good cause you can adjust to what your room temp is.

    Re: IJ Temp Question

what made you change it in the first place? sounds like your original setup was ideal.

Well the main thing that ive noticed since i got him and have been in contact with the breeder the whole time is that he rubs his face all over everything even opens his mouth and rubs it. I have taken him out and opend his mouth looking for anything to be stuck and checked for mucus. None found. No clicking no mucus on glass no sneezing no bubbles no anything. He just rubs his face everywhere. So to be sure that it wasnt the start of a URI i wanted to up the temp for a while. I got it all situated and now have his hot side 90-93 and his cool side 77-80.

I have contacted other breeders as well and they all say sounds like some hair is stuck and that it will take care of itself in time. He eats for me so he cant be to sick. And his feeding response is getting back to what it should be. I have noticed though since the up of a few degrees he has been chilling on the hot side digesting his meal. Before he would only stay on the cold side...and with it being a little low i was just a little nervous is all.

You could use a uth for heat. I find it a lot easier to control the temp with uth's instead of lights.
