    Basking Area

Is a basking area necessary if your ambient temps and belly temps are in the correct zones? I'm trying to stay away from buying a ceramic heat emitter and that's the only way I know of to create a basking zone... So is it necessary for my BP to have a basking area or will he be content without it? He seems happy now...

all you need is a hot spot around 92 and the surrounding temps (ambient) around 80 and ur all set
A room full of empty racks and thermostats that have been unplugged.

When you say hot spot do you mean the hot side? Sorry BP's are new to me

ur hot spot should be where ur belly heat is, keep that around 92. the rest of the enclosure should be kept around 80

A basking spot is kind of a waste when it comes to ball pythons... you should be able to maintain a decent enough floor temperature and ambient air temp with a UTH (under tank heater)... I personally have a UTH and a reptile light hanging above the aquarium on the cool side... mainly because I have a 30 gallon TALL tank and it is hard to maintain a decent ambient air temp in that

And when I say kind of a waste... thats in my opinion, of course.
