Dry skin

What are the temperatures supposed to be? I just got my first "cool" morph of a BP... ive had a regular one for over 6 months now and he's doin great, just has this dry skin issue on his head... and his latest shed didn't get rid of it. When i first got her, her first shed resulted in her eyecaps still on...... so im doing something a lil rong...


I can read websites but i want personal opinions on what i should know, to keep this from happening.

my basking sides surface temp is 90 during day, 80 or lil below at night... ambient is like 86... i use thermostat and timers. my thermostat probe is positioned between the bottom glass of tank, and the actual heating pad.... maybe this is wrong?


1) Surface basking side
2) Ambient basking side
3) Surface cool end
4) Ambient cool end
5) humidity? mine is 40~45 before i mist it... and then it goes up obviousely.


could fact I use cardboard boxes as hides make a difference? (he likes them....lol)

Sounds like your temps are right. Ambient temps aren't as important as surface temps which should be 78-82 ish on the cool side and 88-90 ish on the basking side. Your humidity however is a little low, which could be the root of the shedding problem. Maybe try to cover part of the top of the enclosure with tin foil or saran wrap (which I find better than foil) or invest in a small humidifier to keep your humidity around 50 - 60% and 70 - 80% during the shed cycle. I don't see why cardboard hides would make a difference, but the fact that he likes them is good, cause they're cheap lol

thanks for reply.... okay... I have a dehumidifier in my room i'll give that a shot. or put the saran wrap

You don't want a DEhumidifier...which would make the air drier.

Hi,

Why do you have a drop in the hot side at night and how can it be less than the ambient?

I would keep the temp inside the hot end hide at 90-93f 24/7.

Cool end 80-82f 24/7

And Humidity 50-60% normally bumping up to 60-70% during a shed cycle.

Hi,

No you only really want a night time drop when you are trying to bring the snakes into breeding condition - and I don't even do it then and mine still breed just fine.
