We just picked up a decent temp gun from Harbor Freight, its a few degrees off (1-3) but does a decent job. It runs about $50 but its on sale for $30 right now. There's been a few duds out of the reviews but returning for a new one fixes that problem. Link to temp gun

Re: Whats the best temp gun?

I just got my new gun in a 2 days ago and so far I would recommend it. I've been using cheap thermometers that take 5-10 minutes to warm up, and that gets really old! This thing is instant, has good range, seems to be accurate, and is my new favorite toy

I use a PE2 by Pro Exotics, bought from Exclusive Snakes at the last reptile show and I'm very happy with it, it's within 1-2 degrees as was promised. You can find them at tempgun.com I think.

Accuracy is a problem with IR guns the cheaper ones are usually specs to +/- 2 degrees. The PE2 is 1.5 actually which is quite good to get with in .5 the price is much higher and much more complex to use (reflectance needs to be calibrated to be accurate) The best is buy a ok version and check it against an accurate (check the specs here too!!!) Thermometer and always keep it in mind how wrong it reads.

just picked mine up today at lowes, cost me 40 bucks and is a blast to use! lol... its accuracy is +/- 2 degrees but if u ask me thats fine cause seriously who knows a place in the world where it is 87 degrees every single day..... a little play is fine as long as its not a 7 or 8 degree swing like iv seen
