How Did You React When You Found Out Steve Irwin Had Died?

I was stunned. I could not believe it. I found out one morning, in Augest, it was all over the news. I was so sad. I had a tear come down my eye, but I never full blown cried. He was the greatest conservationist to ever live, ever. I, and the rest of the world, will miss him dearly. Animal Planet, will NEVER be the same without Croc Files, or The Crocadile Hunter. I bet if he was still alive, shows like "Untamed and uncut" and "Fatal Attractions" wouldn't be on there.

And the weirdest thing about his death was, he was killed by a stingray.I thought he would be bit by a venomous snake, or a crocadile. But a stingray never crossed my mind.

    Rest In Peace, Steve-o.

Cool Re: How Did You React When You Found Out Steve Irwin Had Died?

I felt bad for him because he educated so many people. But you have to realize you have to give animals there space. Just like we want ours. Animals are very territorial especially when they have their babies around!

I remember being shocked! I have never been as touched by a celebrity or their death.

Big Gunns hasn't posted in FOREVER, but he still pops in and takes a look around when he can.

Big Gunns felt like he needed to respond to this question though.

Steve Irwins death changed Big Gunns life forever. People close to BG probably realized something was up the last few years, but didn't know what. Well his death was what. His death made Big Gunns took a hard look at his life and what he's doing with it. BG didn't like what he saw....so he changed it.

BG is still one sarcastic sob though...that will never change. There was one thing in particular that he said that really made BG think. It may take a while, but BG will look for it.

Re: How Did You React When You Found Out Steve Irwin Had Died?

It's what he said at 3:04 that got to Big Gunns the most and made him think about his life and what he's doing with it. BG saw this a while after his death and knew right then and there things would never be the same for Big Gunns.

Big Gunns is not dumb enough to realize that he could be considered a hypocrite because of his past, but that's what it is.....his past.

Big Gunns has not turned into some "animal rights nut", but Big Gunns has decided you don't need to be to help wildlife. That's Big Gunns new mission in life. BG hasn't really said much of where he's been or what he's been doing, but most of you should be seeing a lot more of Big Gunns in the future. You might even see his face.

Anyway...to anyone that cares. That's how his death changed Big Gunns life....and BG feels it changed it for the better.

One night, I had this epiphany that I needed to be a herpetologist, I spent all day researching different schools herp programs while watching animal planet in the background, at some point in the day, Crocodile Hunter came on and something clicked. I thought "that's it, I'll go to Australia and meet Steve Irwin and go to school in Queensland." Then I got even more excited when I found out that my father's work would pay almost the full tuition for me to go there. When I woke up in the morning, Steve Irwin was dead.

I didn't end up going to school in Australia.

Re: How Did You React When You Found Out Steve Irwin Had Died?

I was 9 when I found out. There was a Steve Irwin poster in my bedroom, stuffed animals of all sorts, and a love for reptiles in my heart. He inspired me to love snakes; he's the reason I love animals so deeply today. I was wanting to go to Australia Zoo to meet him almost my entire life, but that day I found out I would never get to. I cried. A lot. He was my idol, the person I admired and loved more than anyone else. So yeah, when he died, I was pretty heartbroken.

I will be completely honest and say I cried for a minute after I found out about his death, I always enjoyed watching his shows and appreciated the love and passion he had for his animals. He'll forever be in our hearts.

Yeah, I did cry. I am not sure there will ever be another person who will be able to really capture the public's attention and make them listen the way he did. He really understood human psychology, and what it takes to make people care about wildlife and conservation. Every animal he ever laid hands on or interacted with became a successful ambassador for its species. Its sacrifice in momentary stress swayed tens of thousands of people to think about it and want to conserve it. It was terribly tragic that his life was cut short while his message was just beginning to truly be heard across the globe.

Steve Irwin inspired a lasting love for animals--for all animals, not just the big, or the cute and furry. I know his daughter wants to carry on where he left off, but it's an awful lot of weight to put on the shoulders of a child. I hope that she will be able accomplish what she has set out to do. She certainly has the determination for it.
