Everyone has their preferences... I use newspapers or paper towels for most of my pythons, but a few of the burrowing colubrids get Carefresh instead. The most popular choice is probably aspen, which I don't use due to allergies - supposedly it's great, but I'd still choose newspaper for the ease of cleaning. Just don't use cedar or pine, aside from that it's really up to you.

I used to use carefresh for all my snakes but that became very expencive and it was always messy when I would take out my boas, so I found some cage liners on Kingsnake adn I have been using that ever since

Re: got my 3 new ballpythons abinos so cool and new cages that look awsom
I prefer paper towel or newspaper because I feel more secure feeding them in the enclosure when there's no risk of them ingesting their substrate, but a lot of people use aspen, cypress or even coconut husk and have no problems. It's all a matter of preference.

I use cypress with my BP, Denver has very low humidity so I need it to help keep the humidity up.

I used to use Paper towels, but have switched over to cypress for all my established snakes. Humidity is high and i don't have to replace it ever time they pee like paper towels.
That being said, ALL new arrivals and quarantined snakes get paper towels to look for any mites, blood, or problems defecating.

Paper towels or Aspen for most snakes and cypress from HD or lows for adult snakes if you wish.

Definitely Paper Towel/Newspaper. Easier to keep your snakes environment clean. IMO.
