Spending time on the floor?

I'd say half of my geckos like to hide under paper towels during the day, though I often find them in different hiding spots. Nighttime activity isn't exactly "100% active when it's dark", so you just probably haven't caught it being out and about. From what I saw when I used to spend hours watching their behavior, most of my geckos don't turn on at 'first dark', but wait until I've had the lights out for an hour or two before they get around to mating/eating.

Same with mine. I have little containers as hides for them, my adult uses his, but the baby doesn't. He's a pig so once it's dark in the room and we're not in it, he'll go out and about (Always hitting the food first!). But if we have any light on in the room, he'll stay in the hide til the light goes off and we leave.

Our baby though, she's not shy at all and will watch us all night. She's always out after night. (I call 'it' a she for hopeful thinking )

It really just depends on what kind of gecko personality you're workin with
