Garter Snake Rescue

Hi Everyone,

This morning when I got to school, the reception told me she found a young snake in the office and that one of the other students took it outside (42 degrees). She said it burrowed down into the ground. An hour later she came to me, it was on the side walk (which is shaded) it was moving very slowly and visible slowing down even more. I have it now in an box. It is about 10 inches long, less than a quarter inch thick and beautiful, but I have no set-up or food. I guess I should keep it until the spring then release it in our woods. Any suggestions/advice would be appreciated. THANKS!

You could take it to a reptile rescue. If you have any other snakes in your home, it is probably best not to release it, after it's been moved from where it was found. (This is now the law in some States).

Super easy care.

Pick up a 10 gallon aquarium, they are really cheap, and a screen top (again really cheap)

For substrate pick up a sack of "repti bark"

You will not need any cage heaters, room temps are fine.

you can feed it guppies and/or Night Crawlers from the bait shop.
