My turn! I got bitten
Madison, our smallest BP, has been acting very hungry the past few days--when we brought a rat home to feed Cleo, Madison immediately came out of her hide and was coiling up when I went to reach for Cleo, as if she thought I was food.
Today we got Madison food for that reason, and she tagged me as I was reaching in to get her out. She let go right away, didn't wrap up on me--so is that a defensive bite, or could it be because she's hungry? Would she have wrapped up on me if she was hungry, or just tagged and let go like she did?
Here's photos! It didn't hurt at all, and after 2 minutes the bite had already scabbed over. The mouse bite I got a few days ago hurt way more.
I went running around the house saying, "I'm in bite club!" My mom looked terrified, and Max and Jordan were saying they are waiting for their turn to join. (I don't think my mom understands the importance of bite club )

Re: My turn! I got bitten
This is just my .02 but she probably didn't coil up on you because she realized you weren't actually food. It sounds like a hunger strike to me, lol, and not defensive.
My bp, Ella, nabbed me the 2nd week we had her and she balled up under my hand but couldn't manage to swallow my finger so she let go - after, like, 3 minutes! She was HUNGRY.... But speaking from experience, yes, rodent bites hurt a heck of a lot more then BPs, heehee.....
So I guess I'm part of the infamous bite club too! Can we get t-shirts????

LOL....I avoid reaching for any of my snakes when there are rats/mice anywhere nearby!

It didn't hurt at all. More scared the crap out of me.
Funny thing was the rat was still in its box! I'm surprised she can smell it but she seems to always know when it's in the room.
We need bite club t-shirts, Judy

Not trying to step on the thread, but I got bit just this morning by my male dumerils. I had just come in the room with feeders for all of the snakes and was reaching in to seperate him from the female to feed when tag. Can I get a T-shirt too.

Re: My turn! I got bitten
I'm in the bit club too!!!
I was putting food in his feeding tank when he struck. I guess he thought I was food.
Like you, he didn't coil on me or anything like that but I am not sure if this is because I pulled my hand back fairly quickly. Drew blood but didn't hurt. Kids got a good laugh though.
Now I make sure that I use tongs to put the food in the tank. Thank God that I started to do this cause he is much bigger now and just past Sunday, he struck when I was putting the food in. He hit the tongs and looked like he had to readjust his jaw from the strike. Gave him a couple of minutes then he ate fine.
It turns out that I was underfeeding him, so I upped his feeding frequency and feed size. I just have to be careful...if I go to pick him up, if he is coiled like his is going to strike, I just back off.
Other than that, great to have cause he is very active.
