It's definitely a life-style rather than a diet. That's the only way I've found that works for me. Long-term, of course, is still to be tested, but I feel more confident of the long-term than I ever have in my whole life of trying.
I don't, however, expect my husband or kids to eat "vegan" with me. I'm off the purely vegan portion of my overall plan, but still will stick with that program for 98% of what I consume. I am gradually switching over snacking options and incorporating a lot more healthy choices in basic meal planning. But I still cook meat for them. It's not easy though...watching, hearing, and smelling the meat cook can be painful! But with enough conviction and determination, it's not so hard to resist.
