I am so sorry for your loss.
Unfortunately, unhealthy snakes are common from pet stores.
Necropsies can be quite expensive I know, so I understand you not being able to get one done.
Off hand, if he kept regurging there was something very wrong. His temps seem about right, so it could have been internal. I do know bathing is really not necessary, especially for dehydration, if offered clean water he would drink plenty of fluids. I don't think it would be dangerous though.
If you want to get another, either scrap the current setup in case of contagion, or really, really sterilize everything before you get another one.
