Personally I would never keep BPs in a 55gal tank, way too big. If you have access to a 20L I think that would be a smart move. To the original question...I always remove hides during breeding season just because that is what all my mentor breeders taught me to do. I feel like a hide during breeding would be a hinderence, so I remove them.
