In a simple answer.. no.

Argentine tegus can be tame, and seem to like being around folks(not all, but some) and defintely stay under 8 ft, with most being more like 4-5ft.

However, they need large housing, lots of heat, and eat a LOT. They also hibernate for a few months of the year, so you have a pile of pet mulch for a while.

Most all of the monitors tend to not be all that tame(if you keep them properly heated and fed anyway), don't usually care for "social actiivty" and definitely are not what I'd call "easy to care for".

Most larger lizards just aren't going to fit all of those wants. I love the big monitors, but they aren't tame and aren't easy to care for. Iguanas might be easier to care for with the vegetarian diet, but still need huge cages and basking etc.... and aren't known for staying friendly. Almost all lizards need a lot of space and food and heat. So it all depends on what you're willing to put into the animal, as to what you get out of it.

If you want "easy to care for", I wouldn't suggest any of the larger lizards at all, frankly. They aren't like dogs or pythons, and if you go into owning one expecting that, you'll be disappointed and/or the animal will not end up in a good situation.
