Is the 10gal about 16"x8"? Ive been having good luck with the green latch sterilite tubs. No chew outs or anything, but the ones i have are pretty big. 26"x16". I was gonna try a 12"x12". Its more square inches than the 10gal so i figure it will work good and save on alot of space for me.

I use Small cat litter pans in rack and 66qt tubs as well. Will be moving them to mortar tubs as well.

You have to remember that they aren't as tall as rats, so you need a shorter tub. Six inches or less seems to be your best bet. ASFs are also big time chewers, so you don't really want anything that has edges that they can dig their teeth into.
Small mortar mixing tubs will work.
Large Petmate litter pans will work.
A lot of people stick to aquariums though. For the record, a 10 gallon tank is 20" x 10".
I used to have a bunch of "short" 10g tanks. They were basically 10g tanks chopped down to half the height. I don't know if they were homemade or they came that way, but they were great when I used tanks for everything.

Ill be getting some Lab Cages this weekend. Im gonna put a 1.2 set in them and see how it goes. I would use some 34qt containers but they would be able to get near the edges and chew out. I dont have that issue with the 66qt containers i use. The most they get to is the wood frame for the screening i put in the lid. The containers seem to be working great so far.

Re: What size containers do you use?
I like my 10 gallon tanks because the weaned asf are super fast and can really jump. 10 gallon tanks are just the right height to keep them in check. Most of my tanks I either got for free from community trash days or off of craigslist for free. Hard to pay for rack materials when you get perectly good stuff for free when they both work well.

I like using the ten gallon tanks, cause there glass and chew proof. They are also easy to clean out.
