I find that there's a very fine line between educational and wasteful, and Bear crosses it a lot. It's one thing to tell people what they can and can't eat in a pinch, and it's another to kill the animals and eat them when it's not needed.

And it's not just in Man vs. Wild, but in a lot of the survival shows, the host will find something that could be dangerous to them if provoked, they kill it and then tell the viewer about how dangerous it was. It's all about the shock value.
