"rant" What is it
with alot women and snakes ? Ive been on my own by myself (single) almost a year again, and besides getting involved in racing circle track cars and mud boggin again. I decided to get me another snake collection, as i was forced to sell my other ones many years ago. Now im more stable i aint got to worry about having to get rid of my critters. I have owned quite a few docile to very defensive snakes, and have been tagged a few times. But everytime i go to talk to someone, they run off because of snake. I dont really take mine out to go oooo look snake im so cool. Theres very few people i will let handle any of my snakes, and if people show nervousness or fear i dont let them handle them maybe unless its a baby. But i always get the respone "your gonna get eatin" Yeah let me tell you my adult ball python is "so freakin huge he called be called wormzilla" I figured id make it clear before anybody comes over, because i know some people are terrified. They keep me out of trouble and keep me busy in my spare time. Tending or making something better or feeding them. Ive handled snakes enuff over the years I know which ones i can handle by myself, and which ones i cant. It just gets old, and tired of hearing something like ill get eatin by my "pets" sorry for such a long post. It just gets old gettin trashed talked on for having them in my home. I actaully enjoy them more than my dog because i dont get clawed to death, and they dont chew on my furniture. and again sorry for the long post

For the same reason that people will say "Oh that cat you have will trash your house and pee on everything!" or "That motorcycle will make you into an organ donor one day!" or "You're spending too much on that toy collection, you're going to not pay your bills!"
People don't usually tolerate anything that isn't what THEY like to do. It's not just snakes, they just happen to be an easy target because so many people think they are scary or dangerous. Shrug, just be glad they are being honest in their dislike rather than saying they are fine with them then later popping up with "Oh no, those snakes need to go" causing drama and lost time.

saddly wolfy-hound your right. but i will say cats don't give a rat rear they do what they want were they want, I told mom if another furball showed up here I was getting a burm and start cat collecting for food.( joking mostly ) but it seemed to stop the increase in cats, I don't mind them if they actually did some good, Mom's slackers are useless , the old dog did more rodent caughting than they ever did. and he been dead just over a year know.
I always poointed out the snakes keep me out of trouble, not out chaseing skirts( no offence to anyone), not drinking and driving( don't even drink lol) , and not messing in drugs or other illgeal stuff.
Was married to 4theSNAKElady (still wish we were)

Well to be fair.. your snakes are useless to her, so why should her cats be useful to you?
Tolerance works in both directions. I don't tell my boss she's wasting her money and time on her cars, and she doesn't tell me I'm wasting my money and time on snakes. She enjoys her cars every bit as much as I do my snakes.

Relationships are about sharing. If you're not sharing what you have, and not accepting of what your SO is trying to share, it's not a good relationship.
There are plenty of women out there who are not only tolerant of reptiles, but become active in the hobby once they see how cool it is!
My girl had no idea how fun keeping reptiles and amphibs could be until she met me After spending time with my animals, she thought she'd like to try keeping a panther chameleon. After that, she was hooked. We now go to reptile shows together very frequently and discuss possible breeding projects. She just recently signed a lease for a new apartment with a HUGE basement with the idea to have a bit more room to finally get a couple more panther chameleons.
If you're looking for someone who won't run at the first sign of a pet snake, look for someone who loves pets in general. Someone who grew up with hamsters, rabbits, a dog or two, and took horseriding lessons is probably more likely to be open-minded towards reptiles than someone who never wanted pets as a kid.

Really I can understand where you're coming from 2-4 cats is plenty getting more than that they don't get enough attention. We've had the same reactions from people when we first started getting out with the snake and the baby. Mind the two have only seen each other and the now toddler is not allowed to touch any of them until she's at least 4. From what I've been able to understand is that people don't really know much about the snakes personalities unless they've had them. It's the same as someone who's only kept a cat but bashes someone for having a dog cause they're too clingy. Anything move to Tennessee, women here seem to love snakes and the men take off running. lol

It's not just women.....lol. I dated a guy for 3 years, who knew I had snakes (over 30) the whole time, and didn't mind being at the house as long as they were put up. However, when he decided he wanted to marry me, the snakes had to go. Let me put this nicely, I told him, with a few choice words, that the snakes were here first and the door worked the same way going out as it did when he came in
Bottom line, yes, there should be compromise, but if someone says they "love" you, they will not ask you to give up something that makes you happy.....unless maybe it's strippers or something...LOL!

Re: "rant" What is it
I see what you're getting at. My family is always asking me what I'm going to be giving to them in my will because my pets are going to kill me some day. I only keep ball pythons, by the way. They don't seem to grasp the concept that a 5 foot snake won't be able to kill me.
As for the women being freaked out by snakes, I find that in the older population it's the women that are more frightened, but in the younger generations I've noticed that there are a lot more guys that are afraid (like my really beast friend, 200 lbs of muscle, and blanches at the sight of a 5 month old bp) and more girls are interested in them.
It's interesting how the phenomenon reverses itself in time.
