Baby Boa or Boa in general question

hey guys and girls, I just got my first boa a week ago and he is still very young, he is a little hypo RTB "very pretty", but anyway, i got his temps. and humidity perfect, basking side at 90-92 and cool side around 78-80 w/ humidity at 50-60% my question is that currently the only heat source i am using is from a "red light" bulb that im leaving on 24/7. My question is do they need ground heat? aka heating pads or pad because when i turn the light and pad on it gets way to hot, and when I only use the heating pad the hot side temps drop significantly. I know its kind of a dumb question, but being a new boa owner, i want everything to be perfect for the little guy.

Are you measuring ambient temps or the actual floor of the enclosure? What are you using to measure temps?

On the hot side it is a probe that lays right on top of the hide log where he spends most of his time, on the cool side it is the receiver and that is ambient temps.

It sounds like you need to put the heat mat on a thermostat or a lamp dimmer to control the heat output so it is just right.

You should put up some pictures of the enclosure so we can take a look to see how everything looks. As well as some pictures of your new lil one
