DO NOT Take Showers While Camping in the Bush...
Apparently you may end up on the menu
Tourist Mauled to Death While Showering
A tourist who was showering at a popular fishing camp in Zimbabwe was attacked by up to five lions on Tuesday.
According to MSNBC, Pete Evershed was taking an outdoor shower just before dark when a pride of lions attacked him.
After hearing screams, others at the camp headed to the scene where they found Evershed in the shower with serious wounds, including on his neck. He died later from loss of blood.
Locals believe the attack may have occurred as a result of tour operators using meat to lure lions so visitors can get an up-close look at the animals. Conservation groups, however, maintain lions are having a tough time finding food. Humans consuming Antelopes--a staple in the diet of lions--as well as an increase of fishing camps along the Zambezi River could both be contributing factors.
"If they've got no food, they're going to look for other ways of feeding the pride," said Johnny Rodrigues, head of the Zimbabwean Conservation Task Force, to the German news agency DPA.
Eight villagers have been killed in similar attacks this year.
A spokeswoman for Mana Pools National Park, where the man was killed, said Evershed's wife asked for the lions not to be killed. Evershed and his wife lived in the capital of Zimbabwe, Harare.
"A request has been sent to the authority by the deceased widow for clemency for the lions, an issue still under consideration," she said to MSNBC.
