And here are some pics I took today and touched up the white balance with gimp. I think I need to get brighter lights though so I don't need to do so much touch up. What do ya think so far for an ametuer?

Hey nice photos! I'd try to move the light on the top of the tent down so it is angles in towards the inside more not directly overhead that is where the shadow is coming from especially obvious in 2 and 3rd images. Also you meter is fooling things a bit, when on white set the camera to over expose a bit like 1/2 to 1 stop it is trying to make white grey, on the black set it to underexpose a bit same reason in reverse. Try 1/2 there. I hope this helps.
