Male or Female
Okay, to start off my first ball python was a male normal that I purchased for $30 about a year ago. He was pretty large and around 1500 to 1600gs, I never weighted him when I first got him but feel that is pretty accurate. The gentlemen I received him from said he was roughly 2 maybe three years old. This was just some random guy who knew nothing about snakes and never had the snake sexed just felt like calling him a boy. Well now a year later (Artemis) is 2400grams empty and HUGE! After speaking with a few people in the snake industry everyone is telling me that there is no way this is a male but has to be a female due to the age and weight. Without getting him/her sexed would the sheer size and age of the snake be enough to tell me it is not a male, and in fact a female?
Any comments would be appreciated..
Thanks!

There are always the odd balls (get the ball pun :p ) but that does sound like a nice big lady. The only way to tell for sure is to do a good roll or probing.

Re: Male or Female
I have a clown male thats pushing 2100 grams and had a black back male that I sold at 2200 grams he's around 2400 grams now.
You'll have to have it probed to find out unless you find someone really good at popping larger snakes.

Re: Male or Female
I have a nearly 3500 gram normal that was sold to me as a female. I kept wondering why "she" wouldn't lock with my male? After that...I learned to pob/probe.

I wouldn't use age and size as a sexing reference, while females are usually larger I have owned and seen a few large males.
Get someone to sex the animal for you and show you how to, then you'll know for sure.
