Rack system - hide or no hide?

All of my snakes have at least one hide because the water bowls double as hides. Most of them also have a flower pot saucer hide on the warm side as well. I've never seen the addition of a hide make a snake unhappy.

Can you elaborate on that? Possibly with pics for a visual? Pretty please?
