Help with rack

I am planning on building a rack soon and need some ideas. It's hard to find ideas on here about what people use to lock or block their tubs so ball pythons can't escape. I'm wondering if pins work such as the RBI racks. If you could post a picture of how you do it that'd be great, just so I have some ideas. Thanks in advance!

I really don't think many ppl use anything to "block" their balls in. If the tub fits well enough it shouldn't be a problem. Look at all the DIY and the big breeders racks. (BHB for instance)

Well this rack will be able to hold a 28 qt tub in sideways or two 12 qt tubs on one shelf. The 28qt tubs are a bit taller. So I fear the 12 qt ones will have more of a gap and I'm worried I'll have an escape.

Hi,

I use corner blocks from the hardware store screwed into the edge of the shelf.

This will stop the tubs sliding out - though they do need tightening every now and again and could probably be improved on.





But reading your last post I'm not sure we are discussing the same thing - if your tubs are different heights then that's a fairly major problem. To be blunt if the tubs are different heights then you cannot really say the rack can use either unless you are planning to use lids on the shorter ones - and that is a total pain.

How big a difference are we talking here?

I try and have the gap between my tubs and the shelf above at about 2-3mm.

You could maybe use a removeable sheet of something moisture resistant fixed to the underside of the shelf above to fit the shorter tubs - but you would need to build the runners and catches for that into the design on the first build rather than try and add them later.

You might find it's easier simply to either find alternative tubs the same height or make a decision on so many of each and spacing the shelves appropriately.

It's seriously like less than 1/2 an inch difference. Maybe 1/4? It's not too much but still significant. They are just Sterilte 28 and 12 qt tubs

Well that's quite a gap if you compare it to a snakes nose - especially if you were planning on housing younger BP's.

That's how i have my rack setup, i use 28 quarts sideways and the gap is about 1/4 inch. When i use 2 12 quarts side by side, i have to put a lid on, but it's not that big of a deal, just take out the tub, don't be lazy. I haven't had a single problem of snakes getting out, pushing out tubs, or even trying to escape. Also when they go into shed, i put the lid on the 28 quart tubs for a couple days and it helps tremendously with shedding.

Wow thank you! That helped alot. I was going to go with 41 qts or CB-70s if I couldn't figure it out. Some say 28 quarts work for adults and some say they wont. I might go 41 sideways and however many 12's I can fit and keep lids on them. So I have some piece of mind my adults will be comfortable. What do you think?
