UTH question.
I have my UTH temps set @ 82f, but whe heat tape may go as high as 83, then back down to 81 then back on.
My ambient temp in the cage is 75f.
How is my cage/bin not getting up to atleast 78F ambient, yet the UTH is @ 82-83f?
Thanks for any info in advance.
What ambient should I aim for? 82F? and 82F UTH?

Re: UTH question.
I am pretty sure thats what 2kDime reccomends for temps, an even 82F across the entire tank. I have an ambient of 81F and a hot spot of 83-84F, the snake always sits in his hot spot, I tried to get an even temp across the whole tank and had trouble doing so, so I just left well enough alone because the snake seems to be doing fine.

My blood freaked out when given a hot spot of 80 and where I live now, they keep the house at 65F and I wanted an ambient of 81. So I have some 3" flex watt around the sides of my tub, and a piece of 11" flexwatt on the top of my bloods tub hooked up to a thermostat. The thermostat has to be in 88-90's to get it to stay at 81 sometimes..
I'm still fiddling with the temps.

My short tails also freaked out when they had a 90* hot spot. They don't seem to like it that warm and it makes them aggressive and jittery. I now keep them each in a 4x2 enclosure and they never use the hot side. I would suggest putting heat tape or another UTH on the side or back of the enclosure to raise the ambient without raising the hot spot. If the the hot spot is too warm for them, a blood/short tail will avoid it completely even if the ambient temp is way too cold. This could end up causing RTI or regurge etc.. My ambient is between 79/81 and they have been much more content.
