Quitting cigarettes
I have decided that since I will be turning 37 on Saturday that I am going to go ahead and quit smoking cigarettes. Do any of you have any tips on how to quit? I have been smoking since I am 28 and I really want to stop for health reasons. My next step is to begin a healthy diet and exercise plan to lose some weight also.

Re: Quitting cigarettes
Cold turkey is the only way to go IMO. I've tried MANY times to "wean myself" off of cigarettes, but the only way that worked was to just decide I was done and hold myself to it... (Unfortunately after almost 5 months without a cigarette, life threw me some curveballs and I started again, but I'm about ready to quit again myself)
However you decide to do it, it's going to be hard and you will continue to crave them. You just have to tell yourself that even though you want one, you don't NEED it, and keep reminding yourself how much better you feel without them... GOOD LUCK!!!

Re: Quitting cigarettes
I quit about 5 mos ago cold turkey and I can tell you that it's sincerely the only way. The way I went about it was to keep telling myself how bad it was for me, not only for my health but for my pockets. My wife and I both smoked 2 packs a day....that = to 1000 a month here in NJ. I kept telling myself that over and over, I set a date...and haven't had a cigarette in 5 mos.
I wish you all the best of luck. It's hard...but you just have to have the willpower and you can do anything.

Good luck, man! I need to quit one of these days. Having issues with OCD, I have a hard time changing my routines. Find something to replace the smoking with and you should have an easier time. I've quit a few times before, but it's never lasted more than a few weeks.
Don't replace it with food.....try gum.

well the good news about cigarettes is that when you quit cold turkey you won't be sick for too long! unlike a hard drug like Heroin quitting smoking won't make you vomit or give you the chills! most of it is in your head although your body will want the nicotine it will just stop needing it as much as every day passes, but try to reward yourself every day even if its a little something to say i went another day without smoking!
good luck!

Re: Quitting cigarettes
I quit cold turkey 9 YEARS ago It's the only way to do it. Otherwise you keep craving because the nicotine never leaves your body. You just have to stick with it and after about 2 weeks you will notice how much better you already feel and you wont be craving because of nicotine, but just because of habit. Once you can metally get past that, you've got it. I wish you the BEST of luck. Keep us posted on your progress
