My snakes stink all of a sudden....

I have 3 bp's that I recently transferred from tanks to tubs. Now the room I have them in stinks and I have never had this problem before. I have cleaned the tubs, rack, hides etc. Im not sure what's the problem is now and my girlfriend isn't too happy. Anyone have a clue whats happening? Im thinking since the rack has less air flow then the tanks and thats causing the issue but im not sure. Help Please!

Does it smell like urine or feces? I've never had that problem before unless I left a tub dirty and even then I couldn't smell it unless I went right up and sniffed the tubs.

What are you using for substrate? My snake room doesn't stink, and I have 50 snakes in racks.

Keep in mind, if you use wood shaving bedding or something like that, and only spot clean, you're leaving a lot of urine behind, and snake urine stinks.

A really messy plastic tub can hold odor even after you wash it--bleaching it solves that problem, and disinfecting is a good idea anyhow.

It smells more like stale air, not really feces or urine. The tubs are new and have only been pooped in once. I cleaned them right after and changed the substrate. Oh and i am using newspaper as a substrate.

There may be something in the room unrelated to the snakes that is causing the odor--I would hunt around.
If that turns up nothing, get a simple air purifier, and that should fix the issue.

I don't the snakes are the culprits. Try and put a fan in the doorway for a little while and see if that helps.. If not then I just don't know!

Re: My snakes stink all of a sudden....

Could it be that "new plastic" smell that sometimes comes with plastic tubs? Or whatever material the rack itself is made of? If that's the case, it'll just take time for that odor to dissipate. We recently got those plastic mats that go over carpet for office chairs to roll easily on.... ...the "new plastic" smell of those things took over a week to finally fade away.
