Genotype codes for the phenotype, so yes, that's exactly what happens. I think you're missing the broader stance of my statement. I'm not saying that in a lab, an unexpressed gene could not be identified. I'm saying that online or in person, you could not identify what unexpressed genes a snake is carrying by simply a visual reference.

Psst....Justin Kobylka recognized het pied markers on a CH female he purchased as an import. He trusted his instincts, and held back a pastel from her with similar markers and created his own line of pieds - pastel pieds as a matter of fact.

So yes, to those who have been doing this long enough - they can recognize certain markers, and even prove them out.
