You should have planned this ahead of time. If it was me I would show up late to school tomorrow.

Yep, skip a day of school. Fake a fever if you have too, pretend to puke if your parent won't let you stay. I stayed home when I was in high school for an animal package many a time.
They do require a signature, and if you aren't there you risk it driving around on the truck and you not being able to get it until the next delivery time, which is the next day.

Whether or not it requires a signature depends on the shipper.

I would be late for school because they will send it back to the warehouse and that will void your arrive alive guarantee if you have one!

You could always have the shipper flag it for pickup at the hub. He could also ask to have it left without signature required, but, he will most likely not guaranty live arrival. I flagged a package to be held for pickup at the hub today and they lost the package for a half hour. It's your choice...Good luck.

most the packages I have never show up until after 11 am for me. PLus I arrange to have someone home. I had them delivery a package and the item left at the door and when I checked email saying delivered and go looking for it never find it. ( found the box in pieces torn open 2 days later in the ditch near my sisters place.but never the stuff inside) so They now require me to sign for every package. Like it my fault the neighborhood kids all got sticky fingers.

It requires a signature if the shipper marks it to require one. If this is an issue in the future, request that the shipper not require a signature.
I personally do not send packages with signature required, because I feel that someone's front porch is actually safer than the back of a truck, and I've had both Fed Ex and UPS pull a 'knock and tag' on me--they slap a tag on the door, knock, and run back to their truck before I can even manage to walk to the door, then animal is riding around on a truck half the day.
If a person does not pick up the animal within 15 to 20 minutes of its being dropped off, however, that would void a live-arrival guarantee in my opinion--someone should be home to receive the package, period.
