Single tub questions.
So the season is changing and fall is right around the corner, if not already here (shows how much attention I pay to a calendar XD ). Both seasons are WICKED cold where I live. I'm looking from switching my snake out of her glass tank into a tub. Here's the thing, I don't wanna do a rack system, not yet. I just need to know a way that can keep her warm, and keep her enclosed. I do have a book case in my room, and I'm looking into kinda turning that into housing her. I know a 40 something quart is the size she needs. Any advice on how to do this? What are the best kinda tubs for this? I would need one with a lid so I can close it. I'm always so scared she's going to get out, and I know that is she ever did, and my mom found out, it will be goodbye to my dear sweetheart, and I don't want that. So anything on how to do this, would be great. Thanks. =]

Thanks both. I think I'll try the five pound weights. She's about two feet now, and I'd say a inch and a half in diamater. I think I'm just gonna go with the 41 (i think it is) so she can grow into it. I think she'll already take up a good amount of it. What brand tub do either of you use? Do you use rubbermaid, or sterilite? Does it matter?

I would personally go for RUBs (Really Useful Box) sold at Staples/Office Depot or online. They are very durable with snap on lids that are escape proof. The plastic is thick so that it doesn't "bend" when you try to pry the lid open with your fingers.
I am currently using the 9L size for my babies (around 100 grams) and it should be good until they hit 400grams or so, then I'll up them to the next size. The 9L's are $7.99 at Staples.
The adults would go in the 33L size or 50L size (same floor space, one is just taller) RUBs. They are about $17 - $20.
I suggest you go to Staples or Office Depot and check them out and compare them to Sterilite - especially the lid - and see if you like it better.

As far as heat goes, some can get by with just a heat pad on the hot end hooked up to a thermostat but you said it gets cold there so you might be like me and need more than that. We keep our place cold and room temperature is too low for my ambient/cool end so I use a shop light with a 75 watt red ZooMed light in it, facing the cool end and even though my place is around 70 degrees, this light keeps the tub at a steady 80 degrees on the cool end

I have my new yb in a 28 quart tub not in a rack. I'm awaiting a rack, but for the time being she's in a 28 with a regulated UTH under one side. We driled holes on the sides, glued a probe down to the hotspot and it's been perfect temps in there for her. Although I do have a space heater in my room so the ambient temps stay at about 72 because I too live in New England and my house gets freezing. With the sterilite tubs, there is lots of slack on the top with the lid and I was also worried about her escaping, so I put a bungie cord around the middle to keep the top on. I could send you a picture of the whole thing if you'd like, it's a pretty easy setup and probably costed us a total of $60. Good luck!

@BrianaK: I'd appreciate a photo just because I don't exactly what I'm going to do yet. For your space heater, do you use an electric one or kerosine one? I would look into getting a little electric on for myself because not only would it benefit her, but me as well. ^^
@anatess: Thanks for letting me know about that. I'll go take a look at them for sure. They sound good.
@IndySnake: I wouldn't be able to hang up a shop light because I keep my girl in my room, but I might be able to get a stand to attach to my dome lamp that I have for her now to, and place it over her tub that way. With the shop light over the tubs, do you have a problem with humidity, or is it kept up nice?
