I agree about the registry. There needs to be records of who is buying and owning snakes.
Ha well even if they did ban ball pythons. I guarantee you I wouldn't hand mine over. I would adopt the stance of don't ask dont tell. lol Ahhh I can just imagine it now a black market of ball pythons.

I'm not a big fan of hybrids. Some of them are pretty and most of them are interesting in their own right but there are too many vendors at reptile shows who can't even get their "pure blood" animals right. How can they be expected to honestly represent a hybrid animal should one be on their table?

Sure, show a burmball on TV and it's 8-12 feet long, and bingo, you've got a ban on ball pythons too.

That doesn't make any sense.
Just like with dogs. A lot of areas have bans on dogs that are pure wolf but if they are part wolf, it is completely different. I think it is interesting and something I would never pursue but it isn't the ball python gene that would be to any concern.

I agree, but J_H I think was saying that because the bp is part of the hybrid they would find some reason to ban BP's as well. This happening if people started releasing them into the wild. But there is not way to know if people will be responsible, so I agree in it being a bad idea. I just would be really mad if something like that happened so I have no interest in producing, or buying one. They are still a beautiful hybrid though!

Hybrid discussions are just a can of worms. I personally, don't see the reasoning behind hybridizing ball pythons with other python family members. I can see some why some hybrids come about, because they *COULD* happen in the wild, just very, very rare.
A genetic registry would be nice to have. I'd like to know if I was buying an animal with diluted genes or not.
But to each their own. If you want to own mutts, it's your choice. Me? I'll stick with just my ball pythons.

What doesn't make sense? If a Ball Python is used to breed to a larger python, then an uninformed member of Congress would come to the conclusion that Ball Pythons can be grown larger, to the point of being "Dangerous".
If that makes no sense to you, then you need to read the words more slowly.

I can see how the media would twist such a beautiful creature into well what ever they want....they have made thinking an option for anyone now. People will believe anything so long as it isn't the truth....personally no against hybrids would I breed my balls to my tics and have the baltics (lol) not with the current drama and the majority of people being closed minded thanks to the media, think I'll keep balls balls, tics tics, burms burms and so on again very pretty but the ability to see both sides of the coin on this topic definitely keeping it simple myself and trying to show my little corner my giants aren't out to eat em duuuuuuude Kona shed sooooooooo purdy
