Should I sell my entire breeding collection????

I found out today at work that I am up for a BIG promotion, probably a good chance I will get it but not 100%. I just bought my entire BP collection in June of this year. I spent my tax refund ($3,000) on everything. The promotion includes a move to Hawaii, which everyone knows does not allow snakes. So, obviously everyone is gearing up for breeding season right now and I know my BP's would be great this year.

My question is, would it be wise for me to just sell my collection off now so others can capitalize and breed them this year? I know right now, many people are looking for breeders that will breed this season (like my girls). My other option is to wait and see if I get the job and sell them in late December when I find out if I got it or not. By then, will it be too late to sell them this year? I know its never too late, but I would obviously want to recoop whatever I can from what I just spent. I also know I won't get anywhere near what I bought all my BP's for this year. Of course if I sell them and DONT get the promotion, it will kill me but I would probably do what I was going to do from the begining (and didn't) and start over with a few baby albino females. Damn......decisions decisions.

I agree - wait until the promotion is 100%. Last thing you'd want is to sell them and then something happens where you didn't get the promotion or ended up moving but not to Hawaii.

But good luck with the promotion, sounds like it could be a cool gig!

It's a tough decision for sure. If you DO decide to sell them, just remember not to "advertise" in this thread, but create one in the For Sale/Adoption forum.

I would continue with your breeding plans and worry about selling them when you got the job. Chances are that if you sell them now, they may not breed this because of the stress of moving! Wow! Robin is right on top of everything!

Re: Should I sell my entire breeding collection????

Yeah, the thing is if I get the position, I will have to be there pretty fast. I will have to sell most of my furniture, throw out all my "pack rat" stuff in storage, sell my house, and arrange a place to live for me, my wife, daughters, dogs, etc........fun stuff. My wife is pushing me to sell them now since it will be one of many things we can take off the list. There is about a 90% chance I will get the job but you never know. If I DONT get it, I figured I would do what I originally wanted and should have done in the begining.......buy 4-5 baby albinos and let them mature and breed them in 3 years. I am not in this hobby for the money at all, I just love my BP's. I have been pondering this for the last two weeks.

As far as breeding goes, I am pretty sure these girls will breed right away. They all ate for me within a week and have shown no signs of stress at all......but you never know. I do know someone will be very happy (but not me of course!).

If I do decide to sell them, I know not to use these forums. I will post on Faunaclassifieds or the for sale section here. When I originally typed up this post, I didn't think I hit enter to submit it, but I guess I did. Man, of all the place to move I get the place that allows no snakes!

So how are things with the RI going, did any of the others get it? Is the snake better on the new antibiotics?
