    Mites

I found a white mite on my ball python today. It's only one and I found it crawling on his head. So, I need someone to help me with the process. I'm supposed to quarantine him, correct...? Then what?

Do I throw away everything or do I clean it with bleach solution, and is the bleach solution 10%? I always forget. This is really depressing, but I think I caught it early. What a suckish day, my dad's uncle died today too and our car broke down and now mites. Anyway, I could just use some help here.

I'm pretty sure it's a mite by the looks of it I found it crawling on his head but I just fed him F/T earlier today so I can't do anything about it until tomorrow. It's white, I heard mites were black but I'm assuming they can also be white...

I know most of what you should do but I was wondering if anyone had experiences with mites and what would be the best way to get rid of them. Thank you.

    Re: Mites

Sorry, I'm a little freaked out and this is probably in the wrong place but I found a few sites and they look good.

Sorry about your dad's uncle. You want to get PAM (Provent-A-Mite) follow directions and treat the enclosure.

Just get some retile relief for the snake and then Pam the enclosure like jben said. Provent a mite works wonders. I bought my pastel male and he had mites and i didn't quarantine him and the next thing you know i had to treat all my snakes. Lessons learned the hard way. At least i didn't have as many as i do now. I used reptile relief and provent a mite and the problem was solved.

    Re: Mites

Thanks guys, I hope my poor snake doesn't get stressed, I bathed him once and he HATES water. But, I think he's going to have to deal with it.

    Re: Mites

Wood mites are white, snake mites are black.

    Sorry about your loss

    Re: Mites

Really? I heard that they start out white then when they drink blood they turn red to black. Because I found two white ones and one dark red one total now. Maybe if I'm lucky their wood mites but I found two white ones on my snake and one dark red one around my snake's tank.

Petco is lame and they only had one type of multi purpose mite spray, it's called "Reptile Spray" by Natural Chemistry. I've sprayed it around my room on the rug and I sprayed it on a towel and wiped it all over the tank and such. Maybe if I'm lucky I won't see anymore for a while... Am I supposed to stop quarantine after a month If I don't see any mites?

Anyway, I also Sprayed it on Ghost, my ball python. He didn't seem thrilled. Today was stressful for him because I had him in a sterilite container which wasn't very good at transferring heat at the bottom and gave him a bath. He HATES baths and basically if the water is just like an inch he'll swim frantically and practically hop out the container I'm bathing him in. I tried putting a towel in there as a sort of land kind of thing so he's less scared, plus I only put the water to about half an inch.

I also cooked the wooden items I use for him for two hours at 200 degrees and I froze one hide then stopped freezing stuff because now the hide smells funny. I hope it's okay for him to be around, it probably is, I'm just paranoid. I submerged the non-wood items in his tank in water for around half an hour and they are now separated from everything for as long as he is quarantined.

Just wondering, the spray says not to put it near his face but can't the mites hide in the heat pits and around the eyes? If I put his head under water I'm sure he would hate me forever since he hates water so much. Is there anything else I can do or do I just wait now?

    Thanks guys, wish me luck.
