do their tails get brighter and more vibrant as they age?
i got my red tail as a baby. ive had her a few weeks and i noticed her tail if getting more vibrant. when i got her i noticed it didnt stand out as much as i wanted it too. i googled it and saw some things saying they do progressively get brighter. my question is how long does it take to get the best it can be and how much brighter can it get from when they are babies. thanks =]

Don't they tend to dull out? I've had one before, it just turned darker and darker @_@

Re: do their tails get brighter and more vibrant as they age?
Normally the tails will get a tiny bit more vibrant after each shed when they are babies, but will then dull out.
My girl came to me with a nice red tail, after two or three sheds her tail was a light red (gorgeous) and now it's turning a dark red and that's how it will stay most likely.
You should notice your red tail getting more "pink" on her sides though, it's absolutely gorgeous

I'm guessing the pink is attributed to the scales getting larger. It is really nice. When we first got our RTB, my wife couldn't really see the pink. Now whenever she shows her off, that's the first thing she mentions

Not only do the tails brighten, but their colors get richer and more contrasted throughout their first few years.
For example:
My boa at 6mo

Same boa at 1.5 years

I always understood it to depend on whether you have a BCC or BCI. There is a post somewhere in this section that says BCC's tend to hold the red in there tails as they age, while BCI's tend to brown out as they get older.
Of course I could just be up in the night.
Edit : Found the post, Its in the FAQ written by JLC.
12. How can I tell the difference between a BCI and a BCC?
There is no hard fast rule, as there is a lot of variation in each subspecies. In general though, a BCC has prominent “widow's peaks”. This means that the dark brown saddles on the back look like this: { } { } { }. The saddles on a BCI are usually more rounded like this: ( ) ( ) ( ). BCC are much more likely to keep that typical blood-red colored tail into adulthood, while a BCI’s will usually dull and brown out as it ages.

There are a couple of other ways to tell the difference. Keep in mind, there are always exceptions, but:
- Saddle count from nose to vent: BCC's will usually have 15-18 saddles. BCI's will usually have about 20-21.
-Shape of head: BCC's will usually have less prominent jaw muscles, so their heads generally have a nice, uniform taper from the jaw muscles to the nose, giving the head a more triangle or longer, more slender appearance. Maybe some thing like this <3.
BCI's usually have more prominent jaw muscles, which generally gives their head a broader, or somewhat stubby appearance.
Kind of like this <3...
