Desert Rosy Boa

Do these guys burrow as much as the sand boas do? I'm just wondering bc for the burrowers I measure the temps on the glass. I'm not sure if I should measure on the surface for this guy though. He's sharing a thermostat with my sand boa right now and of course they are reading about 7 degrees different from each other I guess he'll need his own thermostat now. He's also just sitting out in the enclosure, not in the hide. Is this normal for them? Thanks!

Also, his eyes look like metallic silver. He has a little stuck shed on his nose. Could the eyes be retained eye caps? I've never had retained eye caps with my snakes before so I'm not sure. I don't want to mess with him too much right now. I want him to settle a bit.

They won't burrow as much as a sand boa, but they definitely will burrow. From my experience, they aren't very shy so I wouldn't worry about him not hiding. I would put the probe as close to the glass as possible since they will definitely reach the bottom of the enclosure. Here's a headshot of mine for you to compare to. Hope that helps

Thanks! Yeah, that's what I'm used to seeing with rosy boa eyes. Mine has like liquid silver eyes Kinda weird.

My Catavina Locality Rosy is an adventurer. I hardly ever see her in her hide, she is always out exploring and wandering. I keep her probe beneath the aspen...as close to the glass as I can, since she does burrow from time to time. I like to keep a rather thick layer of the aspen in there for that reason....because she really seems to enjoy making herself all kinds of tunnels and whatnot. It's really quite cute. Anyway, best of luck for your little Rosy.
