Weird behavior

My ball looks like he's about to shed, he's very dull right now, and I noticed yesterday that the humidity in his enclosure (glass tank with screen top) was looking low. I've been misting the tank to bump it up, put in a little pot of water where the under tank heat source is, and also covered the top with foil. Right now I'm soaking his driftwood tree thing to further up the humidity.
We have an additional top heat lamp also. He looks more comfortable than he did yesterday.

But....he's out of his hide, which is a bark dugout thing. He's been out for several hours, possibly overnight. He's never been shy but I consider this unusual. Last night he was on top of the hide. I thought maybe he was going to scrape up against it. This morning, he was tucked into a front corner of the enclosure over the heat pad. It's an exposed area but not like, wide open. It's where the water pot was. I misted him again, checked heat and humidity - OK. He still looked a little uncomfortable.
Then I went to work. When I came home at 1pm, he was still in the semi-exposed corner, not in his hide, and he had knocked over the water pot. He's lying in the wet spot right now, still over the under-cage heat pad. He's moving slowly, seems fairly alert and not being aggressive or anything. Again, this is weird - why is he out like this when it's only 3 in the afternoon?

Is this normal? Anything I can do to help him along?

OK, a little update.
I put the soaked driftwood back in, along with some new greenery which I had also soaked. He showed immediate interest, and started crawling all though it. Humidity is looking good, and I could see as he was sliding against the branch that he's got some nice big areas that are starting to slough off. He's tucked back in his hide now, yawning and settling in.
Happy snake!!
I'm going to get a new piece of driftwood and more greenery, and soak and alternate them as needed.

(Note - he was out of the hide and in the exposed area long before I took the driftwood out to soak btw)

I don't think that's anything to be concerned about. He was probably just trying to soak up as much humidity as possible, because maybe it wasn't as humid in the hides.
